The Winnipeg Airport Authority approached Nadi to provide are-visioning of the Manitoba Liquor Mart Express. Located in the Arrivals zone of the newly built Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport, the liquor mart greets visitors and residents, providing an opportunity for a last minute gift or nightcap after a long flight home.
In our design, we took inspiration from Winnipeg’s historic Exchange District, using themes, ideas and aesthetics such as exposed brick, moody finishing and minimal furnishings. Furthermore, we designed a floor plan for the sports bar to include seating for 54 people, a bar, kitchen, hostess and waitress stations. Our goal for this project aimed to create a sense of place in an environment generally influx as airports are considered spaces of transience and placelessness.
In addition to a re-visioning of the Manitoba Liquor Mart Express, the Winnipeg Airport Authority requested Nadi complete a feasibility study for the addition of an adjacent sports bar where family and friends could wait for their loved ones as they deboarded the plane.
